Congrats to Ilkley Brewery, whose Mary Jane Golden Ale won Gold in last weeks' SIBA Northern Beer Competition. They'll now go through to the finals, which is a tremendous achievement for a company only 6 months old.
You can find Ilkley's beers at Foleys in Leeds, Bar't'at in Ilkley, The Corn Dolly in Bradford and, recently, the famed Fat Cat in Sheffield amongst others. We'll be running a little piece on Ilkley and their history in the new year. In the meantime, check out their wares. Solid, tasty session beers all round.
You can see the full list of Northern winners here.

had that beer last night at the woking beer fest and it really stood out amidst some excellent beers. the mallinsons-maori warrior was another great beer.
It's not one of those cannabis beers is it....? Or is the name giving me the wrong impression?
Bailey - yep, my first thoughts, too - but turns out to be a character from the 'On Ilkley Moor Bar't'at' poem!
I drink lighter Pilsner beer in the spring summer and dark in the fall and winter. My favorite summer beer is Straub thanks for sharing this article I love your site will recommend my friends
A real triumph at 3.5% this one. Even the price (£1.95 at the Commercial in Slawit) was something to smile about. Fantastic beer!
Will - now that's good prices.
It is certainly interesting for me to read that post. Thanx for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I would like to read a bit more on that blog soon.
Thanks for the tip off Leigh. Just had a lovely pint of MJ in Foley's.
Excellent blog, well done!
The lads at the Ilkley Brewery have had to expand output because of the popularity of their beers. I think MJ is a superb session ale.
Anyway the Brewery is doing so well they want to move to site of the original Ilkley Brewery which was founded in 1873. The brewery building can be still seen at the side of the railway as you come into Ilkley Train Station. See also
